ABOUT THE TRIP

Picture this: you and your best ski buddies fly to Anchorage, AK, and hop in a floatplane. You fly to a remote glacier where you base camp in your own basin for several days while skiing the most iconic mountains in the US. This trip has it all and is a great way to dip your boots into an expedition ski trip without having to spend weeks camping on a glacier!

This trip is spent in the Pika Glacier zone in the Alaska Range, nestled below Denali and Foraker. We’ve designed this trip for those who are looking to experience a one-of-a-kind backcountry skiing / split boarding experience in Alaska while learning more about traveling/camping in bigger mountain ranges.

We can design this trip for intermediates through experts. Each individual must be physically fit and healthy and have at least begun their journey into backcountry skiing/riding. Must be comfortable on glaciers and skiing variable snow.

ITINERARY

Day 1 / April 22:

Arrive in Anchorage – We will have a place booked for you on this evening to organize gear and prepare to fly to the glacier the next day.

Day 2 / April 23:

Wake up to breakfast at our Airbnb or hotel, and prepare to head over to the Talkeetna Air Taxi Headquarters. We’ll stage our gear and fly to the Pika Glacier at the first available weather window.

Day 3 / April 24:

We will be on the Pika Glacier with camp set up, warm meals, and comfortable sleeping quarters to keep the psych high.

Day 4 - 8 / April 25 - 29:

Each day goes little like this: wake up at … coffee, breakfast, talking about the day. Ski the Pika Glacier, Open bowls, and couloirs!

Day 9: April 30

Our plane arrives around…? to take us back to Talkeetna and we begin our travels home to Anchorage for your flight the next day.

Everything else on this trip such as lodging night one, ski plane flight, basecamp food, etc. will be included so you can focus on skiing.

We will pick you all up from the Anchorage International airport and then motor over to Talkeetna. A basic Itinerary for the trip is listed below and is subject to change due to weather and logistics. It’s imperative to be flexible in AK and goes hand in hand with having a great time up North. After this trip, you will make it back to work the following week with tired legs and minds at ease from an epic trip skiing on glaciers.

  • If you cancel before January 1st of the year you are scheduled to ski with Mindful Mountaineering, I will keep 25% of the cost of the trip and refund you the remainder of your deposit paid.  This 25% covers admin time and trip/life prep costs required to schedule the trip.

If you cancel after January 1st, I will keep the 50% deposit.  If you cancel with late notice, I will end up with a hole in my schedule. This is a disappointing situation for all involved. For this reason, I highly recommend travel insurance. If you are canceling for medical reasons or an emergency of some kind, you should be reimbursed.

If you cancel within 30-days of your trip, you may lose your entire payment. I will do my best to refund as much as possible, but many of the wheels will have been set in motion. If I am able to not pay for items (such as food and gas) I expected to buy, or some businesses (like hotels or car rental places) don't demand full payment, I will certainly refund this portion of your payment. I will do my best to work with you so you lose as little money as possible. At the same time, I ask that you understand that as a small, high-quality, operation, I am severely affected by cancellations. Again, trip insurance goes a long way toward alleviating financial stress in this situation.

No refunds will be given within 30 days of the trip, all sales are final.

No refunds will be given because of weather while in Alaska, once on the trip
